Short Biography:
Monte Short (Arrowman) was a member of the inaugural Class of 1999 of our organization and was honored by the "Visa Hall of Fans" as the Kansas City Chiefs Ultimate Fan in January 1999.
In January 1999, Visa (in conjunction with the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, OH) began a new era of fandom and sponsored a new football promotion called the Visa “Hall of Fans.” The card company, working through a selection committee process, chose one fan from each NFL team to represent their team in a new featured display in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. A portion of the Hall of Fame was designated, a special exhibit was created, and each selected fan was inducted into the "Hall of Fans."
From the beginning, Monte Short (Arrowman) has been considered the Founder of PFUFA. In the first two years, the group was very loosely structured and was more about “getting together over Hall of Fame weekend” than promoting sportsmanship and charities. During the seasons, early members would attend away games and be hosted by other members, and the germination of what the organization was to become was a slow process. Eventually, the group needed a structure, By Laws, and a leader. The name of the group was debated and finally settled on: Pro Football’s Ultimate Fan Association (PFUFA):
"TO PROMOTE THE FELLOWSHIP OF ALL FANS, ENCOURAGE SPORTSMANSHIP AND SUPPORT CHARITABLE ACTIVITIES"
Monte was an obvious choice and was elected to serve as the group's first President and served for two years (1999 is created to him). He has stayed active in the group and helped to shape the current Draft selection process. He has also served a member of our Board of Directors.
It is not an exaggeration to say that Mont Short is our Founder.
