Justin Robert Hostutler “J” The Historian was inducted into our organization in the First Draft Class of 2013 as the Cleveland Browns Ultimate Fan, and was inducted into the Pro Football's Ultimate Fan Association "Ring of Honor" in 2020.
In 2019, Justin was the co-award winner of The Jason “Beardown J” ” Carlson Courage Award.” This award is presented to PFUFA members who throughout the previous year personified honor and courage and inspired membership through the display of our mission statement in their day-to-day lives.
From the age of 8, Justin loved sports. He played Soccer and Softball and was part of Championship Teams in both sports. Justin passionately learned everything he could about Cleveland Sports History, especially the storied history of his beloved Cleveland Browns. He enjoyed going to Browns games and tailgating with his father, “Burnt River Bob.”
Justin was just 13 years old when he started Umpiring Baseball in 1998. By 2019 he ranked among the top 50 of all Ohio High School Athletic Association Umpires. Justin promoted the 3 word slogan “Respect the Game.” He learned the skills required to be a kicker and played Football for Chardon High School. After High School Justin became a Back Judge on one of the top OHSAA Football Officiating Crews. Justin was extremely proud and honored to be chosen to work both baseball and football State Championship Games.
In 2008 Justin was asked to serve as the inaugural Vice-President of the Burnt River Browns Backers. The vision was to create the Largest and Most Active Browns Backers Club in Cleveland. The roster grew over the years to 1450 Browns Fans Worldwide.
Justin had a Strong Faith, was a true believer and became a 4th Degree Sir Knight in the Knights of Columbus. Justin was a Loving son, faithful husband and a proud and caring Father. Justin also loved teaching. A proud educator, he earned his Teaching Degree at Kent State University. He taught Social Studies at Bloomfield Middle School and High School for 11 years. Justin also served as Athletic Director for 2 years. He loved his students and his students loved him. Bloomfield High School Seniors asked Justin to be the Commencement Speaker in 2018 and 2019 during their Graduation Ceremonies.
Justin was proud to be a member of PFUFA. He believed that an Ultimate Fan was much more than just tailgating and support for your team. Justin promoted fellowship and sportsmanship by welcoming fans of other teams to the games. Justin was actively involved in many charitable activities and volunteered often at church and in the community.
