PRO FOOTBALL'S ULTIMATE FAN ASSOCIATION
RING OF HONOR MEMBER
AWARDED POSTHUMOUSLY
Joe Banowsky “Joe Texan” was inducted into our organization in the Class of 2004, was honored by the "Visa Hall of Fans" as the Houston Texans Ultimate Fan of 2003, and was inducted into the Pro Football's Ultimate Fan Association "Ring of Honor" in 2020.
Joe served as the very first Membership Officer from 2010 to 2011. He was also selected as 2019 Houston Sports Fans of the Year, posthumously.
Anyone who knew Joe would tell you that he loved life, football, friends and family. He rarely was able to hide his feelings but always seemed to be able to see the bright side of a problem. His booming laugh was never far away. You may not have always agreed with Joe Texan but you always knew where his heart was and when the chips were down, he had one of the biggest hearts and would give you the shirt off his back.
Joe loved being around opposing fans and traveling to out of town games. He was able to fit in any fan base with his Texans Top Hat which was bigger than his ego. I t didn’t matter if he was in the Black Hole or in Philadelphia, he got along with all fans. Hosting fans was another favorite of his as he wanted to make sure you remembered coming to Houston. It was really important to him. He would always say, “I’m Joe Texan and that’s what I do!”
Shortly after Joe Texan lost a battle with heart disease November 30, 2018, the President of the Texans put it best when he said, “Nobody celebrated football and the Houston Texans more than Joe Texan.”
